The seven sisters of India

Incredible India! The more you explore India, you will be amazed by the landscape and the beauty of nature. The Seven Sisters of India is a term used to refer to the seven northeastern states of India, which are: 

  • Arunachal Pradesh
  • Assam
  • Manipur
  • Meghalaya
  • Mizoram
  • Nagaland
  • Tripura

These states are geographically isolated from the rest of India due to their location in the northeastern region, which borders China, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. The region is also known for its diverse culture and traditions, which are different from the rest of India.

Each of the Seven Sisters has its unique features, attractions, and cultural diversity. Here is a brief summary of each of the seven states of Northeast India:

Arunachal Pradesh: Known as the “Land of the Rising Sun,” Arunachal Pradesh is a scenic state with snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, and lush green forests. It is also home to numerous indigenous tribes, each with their own unique culture and traditions.


Assam: Famous for its tea plantations, Assam is also home to several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. It has a rich cultural heritage, with influences from the Ahom dynasty, which ruled the region for over six centuries.


Manipur: Known as the “Jewel of India,” Manipur is a land of natural beauty with lakes, waterfalls, and hills. It has a rich cultural heritage, with the Manipuri dance being one of its most famous cultural exports.


Meghalaya: Meghalaya is a state of rolling hills and waterfalls. It is home to several indigenous tribes, including the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo people. It is also known for its Living Root Bridges and its annual Nongkrem Dance festival.


Mizoram: Mizoram is a state with rugged hills and scenic valleys. It is home to several indigenous tribes, with the Mizo people being the largest group. It is also known for its music and festivals, including the Chapchar Kut festival.


Nagaland: Nagaland is a state known for its vibrant culture, with festivals such as the Hornbill Festival attracting visitors from all over the world. It is also home to several indigenous tribes, including the Naga people, known for their unique traditions and customs.


Tripura: Tripura is a state of lush green forests and hills. It has a rich cultural heritage, with influences from its indigenous tribes, as well as from neighboring Bangladesh. It is also known for its Ujjayanta Palace, a former royal palace that now serves as a museum.

These seven sisters have a diverse and vibrant culture, with picturesque landscapes. These are trending as top tourist destinations of people in India and across the globe.
